It’s that time of the week for another AFL Fantasy article with a salivating slate of footy ahead, including the ANZAC day game. Before we jump into suggestions for the week, lets review how the article went last week.
Firstly, lets look at the proposals I made that went well, here on out known as ‘Buccos Bangers’.
Buccos Bangers
- Serong (Buy): Pumped out 125 vs GC last round and 114 v WB in the early game this round
- Hunt (Buy): A serviceable 69 and jumps another 42k, worked out well considering he was proposed as a stepping stone to earn cash in the short term
- Stewart (Buy): A respectable 98, would definitely buy if you don’t have him already
- Dawson (Buy): 133 and a big result for VC’ers.
- Horne Francis (Sell): Got to 67 so not the worst result for keepers. Has WC this week and could go big. Whether my ‘sell’ suggestion turns out to be right probably hinges on his game this weekend
- Duncan (Avoid): Scored just 55. Don’t expect it to be consistently around here, but equally don’t think hell replicate the 120+ performances often
- Laird (Hold): 118 in a big game against Carlton. Rewarded owners who held. Kick now Laird!
Losers
- Weller (Buy): Puts out just 77 in an underwhelming display. Will have to see how he goes this week, but as a POD suggestion, may have not been the wisest suggestion
- McGrath (Sell): Scored 84 and looked to move well around the ground. Had a great first quarter, but faded after.
- Day (Hold): Will bundle it into the losers, but really depends on who you would have brought in. If it was likely Stewart, I think this was a poor tip
Buy, Sell, Keep and Avoid Round 6
Buy
Matt Roberts (213k, 29.8, 6)
The emergence of Matt Roberts as a downgrade option comes at a great time for coaches, with a variety of rookies becoming ripe targets to offload. The likes of Chandler, Mackenzie and Ginbey are all reaching the peak of their prices, especially with high associated breakevens. Given the Swans injury crisis, Roberts should also have reasonable job security in the short term, which is scare amongst current rooks.
Chayce Jones (486k, 75.3, 11)
Jones seems to be hitting his stride, with scores of 85 and 108 in his last two. He has a fantasy friendly role as a winger, despite being listed as a defender on fantasy. For many coaches it will be a no brainer to move Mackenzie/Ginbey to Jones, who currently has a breakeven of just 11. Worst case scenario he underperforms and will still make a bit of cash in short term, acting as a handy stepping stone.
Lachie Neale (841k, 92.4, 99)
Can only keep a Brownlow winner down for so long, inevitably he was going to snap his streak of poor fantasy performances. Likely buying him at his lowest price for the foreseeable future with his BE at just 99 – with upcoming fixtures of GWS, Freo, Carlton, Essendon, Adelaide and Brisbane, he is a hard option to pass up on.
Hold
Tom Green (868k, 107.8, 99)
The MRO claim another scalp, with Green becoming one of the most recent victims to the AFL’s crack down on sling tackles. Fortunately, or unfortunately (if you are an owner stacked with outs already), he has only been given a week suspension. Averaging 107.8 on the season with just one score under 100, he is a season keeper. No point burning a trade here.
Sell
Cam Mackenzie (444k, 57.8, 62)
Coming on as a sub has almost capped Mackenzie’s earning capacity, with his BE rising to 62. He is only averaging 57.8 on the season, with scores of 75, 44, 94, 56 and 20. With Day only a game away from returning from his suspension, that will likely see even less mid time for Mackenzie. Worrying stats associated with his midfield time as his CBA have started to steadily decline – CBA percentage over the last few games: 52%, 25%, 17%, 7% and 28% (no Day).
Avoid
Worpel (616k, 84, 46) Coming off a score of 114, it is definitely tempting give his price point. If you have him currently, he’s a hold, if not, he’s an avoid. I’m expecting him to score relatively well again against the Crows, given the fact Day is still out. Day attends a majority of CBs for the Hawks and his absence last week saw Worpel’s highest CBA% since round 1 (68%). When Day returns, I would be looking to move on Worpel after he hopefully sees another price rise.
Buccos Trades
This week I’ll be keeping it simple:
- Mackenzie → Jones via Ginbey DPP to Mids
- Chesser → Matt Roberts
Cashing in on Mackenzie after his sub stint has caused his breakeven to inflate. With uncertainty around his role, I think now is the time to cash in. Chesser trade is a no brainer given his injury and the fact Swans seem to rate Roberts. Will be eyeing off Neale against his former club Freo next week as a priority trade, especially given they aren’t a particularly restrictive side for Fantasy.
