AFL Fantasy Round 8: Buy, Sell, Keep & Avoid

It’s that time of the week for another AFL Fantasy article with a big slate of footy ahead. Let’s jump straight into the Buy, Sell, Keep and Avoid’s for the week.

Buy

Fiorini (559k, 64.6, 31)

With Touk Miller out for the foreseeable future, I am again happy to be hurt again by the mid-pricer roulette. I can’t help but be tempted. Pumped out 112 on the weekend and with Weller departing, he should be a candidate to see plenty of ball, especially after being named in the middle.

Anderson (912k, 105, 82)

It is a pile up for Suns fantasy assets this week and Anderson looks like could become a premium fantasy option without Touk. Putting up 159, 107, 102 and 134 in his last 4, he is becoming the focal point of the Suns midfield.

Sell

LDU (824k, 92.8, 135)

Late out, 3 underwhelming scores (91, 76 & 66) followed by another late out. Incredibly frustrating for owners after starting off with 108 and 123. North’s midfield have been getting battered as of late and I see now upcoming reprieve with St Kilda, Port, Sydney and Collingwood to come. Potential options to move to include Will Day or X. If you are looking for a downgrade to harbour a bit more cash and fancy some risk, look no further than Fiorini who should continue to benefit with Touk Miller out.

Keep

Pedlar (450k, 63.5, 28)

Pedlar has been extremely serviceable up forward for fantasy coaches, pumping out 70, 55, 67, 47, 67 and 75 for an average of 63.5. While some coaches are looking to move on from the cash cow, I would advise against given his low BE. Look to give him 1-2 more weeks to make the most of his cash generation, then ship him off to a premium option.

Avoid

Young (728k, 85.7, 75)

Young is strongly in my avoid list after a tumultuous start to the 2023 season. Fresh off a breakout AFL season, many thought this would be the year Young took his game to the next level fantasy wise. After scoring 118 in round 1, this looked to be the case. Unfortunately, this has not been the case. Post scoring 118, he has put up scores of 52, 80, 78, 83, 77 and 112. Ryan is the Docker’s defender who poses the greatest fantasy value, but given how slow his gamestyle and decision making is, the ball often bypasses Young, reducing his potential output. The way Freo play is also conducive of volatile fantasy scores, bar maybe Serong and Brayshaw.
